The absence of a Turkish flag outside the hotel in Rome where President Ahmet Necdet Sezer is staying during his 3 day visit to Italy has attracted attention in Ankara. Outside Rome's Le Grand Hotel there is one Italian flag flying, buffered on both sides by European Union flags, but no Turkish flag.

It is generally a tradition across the world that a hotel flies the flag of the country of a visiting prime minister or president. Despite the fact that Le Grand Hotel is a private concern, it was expected by Ankara sources that the hotel would fly the Turkish flag on the occasion of Sezer's visit.
