$13.6 Million Pledged During Hayastan Telethon
Los Angeles, November 24, Armenpress: Around $13.6 million have been pledged during the 9th Annual International Telethon of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, started yesterday from studios in Glendale, California.

"Proceeds from Telethon 2006 will benefit the war torn region of Hadrut in Nagorno Karabakh. The plan (Hadrut Regional Development Plan) will draw parallels to the Martakert Regional Development Plan, which is currently underway," said the Fund's press release.

Last year's telethon was held for the revitalization of the Martakert region, during which $7.7 million was raised. The Fund is planning to use the funds raised during the Telethon for the reconstruction of Hadrut regional hospital, a series of new schools, new water pipelines and distribution networks, as well as a comprehensive regional agricultural development program all designed to enhance the socio-economic standards of the region.

Before this Telethon, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund held a European "Phonethon" in France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Switzerland from November 16-19, and collected about 1 million Euros (US $ 1.4 million) in pledges.
