Dear Vazken (if I may call you that),
I was trying to finalise a tender, when I heard the beep of the arrival of a message in my in - box: the GIBRAHAYER e-magazine), and reading through it, I also read your message. May I kindly reply to some of the points raised? (Your comments in black, mine in blue)

Getting 53% of the vote, however, is hardly a triumph and betrays a very divided community. I wonder if you felt the same way the past 25 years, because the percentage of the vote that went to the 'other side' has always been the same. Was it not dividing and betraying the community back then?

The criticism you have consistently heaped on Atamian seems utterly unfair as he did not even have eight months to prove himself. Dr. Atamian's term did not begin eight months ago. He has been practically involved in these issues for as long as I can remember (being in the hokapartsutiun of both MELKONIAN and NAREG for years). He was very well acquainted with all the doors and windows and key people. However, he gave one promise to us, which everybody knew was IMPOSSIBLE to materialise: the re-opening of MELKONIAN. Dr. Atamian is a loved and highly respected person in our community, and is a dear friend to my family, too. I hope he realises in the long run, that he was on the wrong side. You should understand that nobody had or has nothing personal against him. But since, he was representing the 'other side', obviously his name was to be dragged through the panels and not Yiannis or Costis.

Where this newsletter stoops even lower is in the rabid criticism and dismissal of the Kalaydjian brothers' tenure as MPs. Are you really serious when you condemn their years as 'lost years' after two decades of selfless service to your community? You are right, there must be something good they did over the past 25 years, besides actively contributing to the closure of MELKONIAN, especially the past 15 years.... , and besides the creation of a BERLIN wall within the community.

Surely they must have done something right! Is the only criterion for criticism in this newsletter the fact that they were not Tashnags? Excuse me? I think you are asking the question the other way round.

I am very interested to see how Mahdessian will fare over the next few years. The signs are not hopeful. How could one living thousands of miles away from this country and its daily problems know whether the signs are hopeful or not. You should go through the daily routine with it all, to be able to bring out such a conclusion. It took me 15 years to decide!!

Emptying rubbish bins on Dr. Atamian's car or placing black wreaths on his front door tell heaps about the level of some supporters of the Mahdessian camp. Pretty sad particularly in a community of 2000 souls. Let's get serious please.

Judging from your coverage of the elections I don't have high hopes for this community or any improvement in editorial standards and the promotion of balanced reporting of this newsletter. You may only acquire the standards of your hopes by interacting with the people involved, and not from the publishing attitude of an editor. In conclusion, it is very sad to know that people are feeling this way about our community. We wanted and brought about change. I am a mother of two and naturally have great fears towards the future of my children. With the reign of the previous party, for me there 'was no future'. My husband and I even discussed 'moving to London'. But now, now that we have finally managed to open those rusty doors, which were kept closed to the members of our community all these years, now that we know our voices are being heard, we are staying where we are, and are going to contribute to the wellbeing of our community any way we can . I hope you will keep on monitoring to witness it all!

Entertainment over !

In reply to Mr Vazken-Khachig Davidian,
After carefully reading your message I was compelled to send a few well chosen comments
In your message you mention how every week you are entertained by this newsletter for the wrong reasons and yet you have entertained us just this once ....unfair !
Your message wreaks of prejudice. One might even wonder as to where exactly you have collected your facts in order to form the opinions that you have. When was the last time you were involved with the Cypriot Armenian community affairs? or when was the last time you were in Cyprus in an active capacity for that matter?
You have been ill informed Mr Davidian, you listened to one side without the desire to hear the other. Second hand news are more often then not heavily contaminated with the opinion of others one must see for themselves first before passing comment publicly .
Criticism without any constructive suggestion is nothing more then mindless vandalism.
The great majority is of the opinion that there is some kind of antagonism against Dr. Atamyan the truth is far from it, he is well respected from both sides, had it not been for his popular character and charm the election win would have been a child's play, there never were any ill feelings towards the Doctor and never will be either, the same can not however be said about his sergeants that ensured him a gallant second place. The Doctor did not loose, the organisation did.
The few recalcitrants such as yourself may well do better getting their facts strait prior to leaving their hollows. You were not here; so my question to you is: How do you know the whys and hows? How can you form these opinions from such a distance? Or are they just a few cheap shots coming from someone who is smoldering in his own heat. Why the intense prejudice? Time to leave the sour grapes and place your humble pie in the microwave in readiness.
And Mr.Tavitian ...oh !! sorry That should have been "Davidian" the next time are passing through the neighborhood....... keep going.

Simon Hi,
This is Sarkis Demirdjian.
In reply to Ken Fosters e-letter and your answer I NEVER remember U and your wife were waving Cypriot flags in any celebrations!
Dear Simon,
I just read the article by the Turkish journalist about the Eurovision Song Contest and thought it was very entertaining. I was wondering what the Turks thought of their 10 point vote to Armenia, which we thank them for from the bottom of our hearts. We must agree with him that the voting system is “sometimes” political and it might have come from Armenians living in Turkey, but I have one question which might help him understand the third or real reason for his country’s approval of our song. Why does he call his people lazy when he was sleeping throughout the contest? If he had watched it, he would know that we deserved even 12 points, but may be Turkey was too embarrassed to announce that on Live TV.
P.S. I did not even want to get into the history part, if we are brainwashed, he certainly is clueless….
Best Regards,
Natasha Tavoukjian

Sireli Melkoniantsi yeghpayrner yev paregamner,
We are distributing the attached announcement as a result of a lot of false reports and malicious rumours. We would appreciate it if you could publish the announcement in your next editions.
Sirov - Masis der Parthogh

Hands off the Melkonian!
The Melkonian Alumni Association of Cyprus is obliged once again to issue an announcement as it continues to be the target of false reports and malicious rumours circulated by certain parasites in Cyprus and elsewhere who have a vested interest in keeping the Melkonian Educational Institute closed with a view to disposing of the Melkonian estate and other assets.
We reiterate our commitment to the struggle to help save the Melkonian and reopen the historic school in its present location as the only boarding high-school in the Western-Armenian speaking world.
We did not join the struggle by choice, but were forced into it following the treacherous action of a handful of people at the helm of the AGBU who sought to close the school in the name of "azkabahbanoum" and wipe out the education prospects of future generations.
