06 04 24 - Prime Minister of Canada recognizes Armenian Genocide!
From Annette Melikian- USA
On Thursday, April 19, 2006 at a press conference in Manitoba, Prime Minister Stephen Harper affirmed his stance on the Armenian Genocide, stating that the "Parliament passed that resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. Our party supported that resolution and we continue to recognize that parliamentary resolution."

For over 30 years the Armenian National Committee of Canada and its various local chapters including the Armenian National Committee of Toronto have organized demonstrations, lobbied politicians, informed the public and made Armenian Genocide recognition a priority in Canadian politics. Today we proudly proclaim victory as Canada joins a growing number of countries that have officially recognized the mass murders of 1.5 million Armenians in 1915 as genocide.

This achievement could not have been possible without the efforts of a number of people, especially the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Mr. Jason Kenny, Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Peter MacKay, and friends and supporters of the Armenian National Committee of Canada and the Armenian National Committee of Toronto.

We urge you to go to www.armenian.ca and follow the Action Alert prompts to send a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper in appreciation of his support and official recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
