The Newrouz festival celebrations in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir have degenerated into a pro-PKK demonstration.

Police took up tight security measures where some 80,000 people gathered in the designated assembly area to mark Newroz on Tuesday as war planes made low flights overhead.

A group of people, who demanded the removal of the security barricades, clashed with police and hurled stones at them. Three police officers were injured.
