The Preservation of the Fortified Armenian Monasteries of San Taddeh and Surp Stephanos in Iran (UNESCO Word Heritage Sites)

The lecture presents the results of the last research trip to Iran of the Center for the Documentation of Armenian Culture (Venice) in late July 2012. Minas Lourian, executive director of the Center, organized and lead the trip in collaboration with the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Rome and UNESCO. Prof. Gianighian, full professor of Restoration at the IUAV University in Venice, Arch. Francesco Augelli, assistant professor of Restauration at the Politecnico University in Milan, as well as Arch Vahe Vartanian and Sherly Avedian (Manager of the ICHHTO Research Base of the World Heritage Property of the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran - UNESCO) also participated in the trip.
During the trip the team was able to identify the main preservation issues of the two monasteries, and design a project to carry out preliminary measures for safeguarding the buildings. Eng. Alberto Lionello, director of the Technical division of the Sovraintendenza Belle Arti was actively involved in this phase of the project.

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Rome and the Rome based Zadik Association for Armenian-Italian friendship are co-sponsoring the event.
