The enforcement of human rights and the rule of law is among Armenia’s main domestic challenges and Mr Harutunyan’s role in is fundamental in this respect. His unique experience and his views should be valuable to all those with an interest in the development of Armenia or in other countries with comparable challenges - particularly other “Eastern Partnership” countries.

His statements have provided a much needed anchor of public debate on matters relating to democracy and the rule of law, thanks in no small part to his independence from all political forces and through his legal competence.
