URGENZA MEDICA:
L’ASSOCIAZIONE MONACO ARMENIA CHILDREN’S FUND LANCIA UN APPELLO DI AIUTO UMANITARIO.
In seguito alla tournée dei giovani musicisti The New Names of Armenia, organizzata
dall’Associazione Monaco Armenia Children’s Fund (www.monaco-armenia.com) a Venezia e al
Principato di Monaco il 23 e 26 Marzo u.s., l’associazione si ritrova ad affrontare la dura realtà del
campo sanitario in Armernia.
Durante la stessa tournée, uno dei ragazzi musicisti, il quindicenne Garen, pianista promettente, era
spesso in uno stato letargico e accusava una lieve e continua febbre. Pensando ad una forma
influenzale, prendeva del paracetamolo e sentiva di continuo la necessità di bere la coca-cola. Poi
rimettendosi al pianoforte ci trasportava come era solito fare…
Prima del concerto di questi ragazzi a Monaco, durante le prove nella sala Belle Epoque dell’hotel
Hermitage, Robert Schalaudek, presidente dell’associazione, ha voluto fortemente motivare i ragazzi,
esortandoli a suonare con tutto il cuore pensando ai loro amici e a tutti i ragazzi bisognosi d’Armenia;
dovevano suonare per loro.
Nessuno immaginava che uno di questi ragazzi bisognosi sarebbe stato Garen.
Dopo il rientro a Erevan, arrivò la notizia choc… A Garen è stata diagnosticata una leucemia.
Essendo i trattamenti per il cancro molto ristretti in Armenia, i suoi genitori lo accompagnano a San
Pietroburgo dove vive una zia e dove comincia a sottoporsi ad una prima serie di chemioterapia.
Approccio molto serio e protocollo quasi identico a quello praticato in Francia, ma purtroppo con dei
costi proibitivi per la condizione economica dei parenti di Garen: 400 dollari al giorno.
Non c’è nessun tipo di previdenza sociale come nei paesi europei… Bisogna pagare…
Dopo una prima ripresa, Garen ha una ricaduta. La sua milza è quattro volte più grande delle
dimensioni normali. I parenti sono disperati e fanno circolare appelli di aiuto per poter ricoverare in una
struttura specializzat europea, perché non c’è nessun dubbio… la chemioterapia non sarà
sufficiente… dovrà senz’altro beneficiare di un trapianto di midollo nella speranza di poter guarire… e
ciò, in tempi brevissimi.
Per rendere possibile il trapianto, Garen viene trattato dal 24 Maggio con un secondo ciclo di chemio
che deve assolutamente metterlo in remissione nel giro di due settimane (si spera…)… altrimenti il
trapianto del midollo è impraticabile…
Il trapianto del midollo richiede una tecnologia e un trattamento post-operatorio estremamente
costoso… Tra i 250 e 300.000,00 Euro… Nel caso non ci siano complicazioni…
In Russia, la pratica di questi trapianti e cento volte meno frequente rispetto ai paesi europei. Bisogna
assolutamente ricoverarlo in Europa e d’urgenza. I suoi giorni sono contati e il ragazzo perde
coraggio. Garen ha due fratelli che sono appena rientrati dal servizio militare e sono attualmente
testati per la compatibilità del midollo.

MEDICAL URGENCY:
THE MONACO ARMENIA CHILDREN’S FUND ASSOCIATION IS CALLING FOR AN URGENT HELP.
After a musical tour of The New Names of Armenia, organized by the Monaco Armenia Children’s
Fund (www.monaco-armenia.com) in Venice and Monaco on the last 23rd and 26th of March, the
association is faced again with the hard reality of the medical field in Armenia.
During the tour week, among the musicians, was the young pianist Garen, a fifteen year old boy, of
very promising talent. He was a little bit lethargic and was suffering from a light fever. His entourage
thought it could have been just the flu. He took some analgesic and continued moving and touching us
with his music.
At the rehearsal of the concert in the Belle Epoque room at the Hotel Hermitage in Monaco, Robert
Schalaudek, President of the association, insisted on giving the children a deeper motivation. He told
them to play with all their soul and to think of their friends and all the disadvantaged children in
Armenia and he encouraged them to play for them.
Once the group of musicians returns to Erevan, the shock! Garen was diagnosed with leukemia, but
treatments for cancer are very limited in Armenia. So his parents brought him to Saint Petersburg
where one of his aunts is living and he began a first series of chemotherapy.
The treatment is appropriate, the protocol is nearly the same as in France, but the hospital costs are
400 dollars a day and his parents have little means. There is no social insurance as we have in our
country. All the expenses are on the patient’s family.
After a first remission, the child relapsed. His spleen was four times its normal size.
His parents were panic-stricken and spread messages around the world to obtain financial and
medical aid. Since the 24th of May he is undergoing a second chemotherapy treatment which would
make him enter in remission hopefully before two weeks. They wish Garen to be transferred in
Europe, for a potential bone marrow transplant should the second chemotherapy treatment prove
unsuccessful. In Russia, these transplants are 100 times less practiced than in Europe.
A bone marrow transplant needs a sophisticated technology and a follow-up extremely expensive:
between 250.000 and 300.000 Euros in the best scenario.
We have to be ready to transfer Garen.
Time is running out, and the child is getting weaker and needs your support.

Après une tournée musicale des New Names of Armenia organisée par l’Association Monaco
Armenia Children’s Fund à Venise et Monaco le 23 et 26 mars dernier, celle-ci se trouve
confrontée à la dure réalité de la misère en Arménie.
Durant la semaine de la tournée, parmi tous les autres musiciens, le jeune Garen, 15 ans, au
talent très prometteur, était quelque peu léthargique et se plaignait d’une légère fièvre.
Pensant à un état grippal, il prenait du paracétamol et demandait toujours du coca-cola.
Puis il se remettait au piano et nous transportait…
Avant le concert de ces enfants à Monaco, durant la répétition dans la salle Belle Epoque de
l’hôtel Hermitage, Robert Schalaudek, Président de l’association, a voulu fortement motiver les
enfants, leur disant qu’ils devaient jouer avec tout leur coeur en pensant à leurs amis et à tous les
enfants d’Arménie dans le besoin, c’était pour eux qu’ils devraient jouer.
Personne ne pensait qu’un de ces enfants serait Garen.
De retour à Erevan, le choc... Il est diagnostiqué une leucémie.
Les traitements pour le cancer étant très restreints en Arménie, ses parents l'amènent à St.
Petersbourg où se trouve une tante et où il commence une première série de chimiothérapie.
La prise en charge est sérieuse, le protocole est quasi identique à celui pratiqué en France, mais
l’hôpital coûte 400 dollars par jour et les parents sont pauvres.
Pas de sécurité sociale comme dans nos pays... Il faudra payer...
Après une première rémission, l’enfant rechute. Sa rate est quatre fois la taille normale.
Les parents sont affolés et font circuler des messages pour pouvoir transférer Garen en Europe
car il n'y a plus de doute... la chimiothérapie ne pourra suffire... il devra bénéficier d'une greffe de
moelle pour espérer guérir... et ce, dans les plus brefs délais.
Pour ce faire, il subit depuis le 24 mai une deuxième chimiothérapie qui doit absolument le
mettre en rémission d'ici deux semaines (espérons...)... sinon la greffe est impossible...
La greffe de moelle relève d'une technologie et d'un suivi extrêmement, extrêmement coûteux...
Entre 250 et 300 000 Euros... S'il n'y a pas de complications...
En Russie, la pratique de ces transplantations est 100 fois moins fréquente qu’en Europe.
Il va falloir le transférer et vite. Ses jours sont comptés et l’enfant perd courage.
Garen a deux frères qui sont revenus du service militaire et sont actuellement testés pour
compatibilité de moelle.
