09 01 2009 - NAASR to Participate in Jan. 13 Forum at Fordham Univ.

Dear Friends:

NAASR will be a participating organization in a special open forum at Fordham University entitled "What is the Future of Armenia and Its Diaspora in the 21st Century?" on Tuesday, January 13, from 7:00-9:00 pm, at 113 West 60 Street in New York City. NAASR Director of Academic Affairs Marc Mamigonian will participate in the forum as a panelist.

The forum is chaired by attorney Bryan Ardouny, Executive Director of the Armenian Assembly in Washington, D.C. Ambassador Armen Martirossian has been invited to discuss "Armenia Among Nations." Harold Takooshian of Fordham University will discuss "Armenians in America." Marc Mamigonian of NAASR will review "Armenian Studies in the U.S." Drs. Ani Kalayjian and Siroon Shahinian with the United Nations will discuss "Armenians at the UN." Dr. Lawrence Najarian, the President of AAHPO, will discuss "Health in Armenia:the Role of the Diaspora," and provide information on the upcoming Armenian Medical Congress in New York in July of 2009. Dr. Carol Aslanian of the AGBU will discuss "The American University of Armenia: Making history."

At 6 pm Tuesday, immediately preceding the 7 pm forum, all are invited to a reception saluting the many Armenian volunteers and staff currently serving at the United Nations.

This forum is hosted by Fordham University, and its Armenian Club, headed by President Artur Sedrakyan. Admission is free and refreshments are served.

Participating groups: NAASR (National Association for Armenian Studies & Research), AAA (Armenian Assembly of America), AUA (American University of Armenia), AAHPO (Armenian American Health Professional Organization), EFS (Everek Fenesse Educational Society), ABSA (Armenian Behavioral Science Association), AASSSG (Armenian American Society for Studies of Stress & Genocide), and FIRST (Fordham Institute for Research, Service, and Teaching).


2009 Lectures Being Scheduled


Following its busiest year ever in 2008 for public programs, NAASR is currently scheduling events for 2009. We will be sending announcments of coming events in the very near future.
